![]() It took the EliteBook Folio just 4 minutes and 21 seconds to complete our spreadsheet macro test, which matches 20,000 names with their addresses in OpenOffice calc. The Core i5-6300-powered ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6,828) and Core i7-6500U-enabled Razer Blade Stealth (6,893) did just a little better. That's far better than the ultraportable category average (5,034), the Core m5-6Y57 Dell Latitude 7370 (4,095) and the Core m5-powered MacBook (5,906). The EliteBook Folio G1 scored a strong 6,706 on Geekbench 3, a synthetic benchmark that measures overall performance. Even with over a dozen Chrome tabs open and a video playing in another window, the laptop showed no signs of lag as I typed a Google doc and switched between tabs. With its Intel Core m7-6Y75 CPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, our review configuration of the EliteBook Folio G1 was more than powerful enough to handle everything I threw at it, from intense multitasking to serious productivity work. However, as stated above, the camera did an impressive job of recognizing my face as a login, using Windows Hello. The Folio's 720p webcam captured decent, but unimpressive, photos that are about on par with those from most other business laptops.Ī picture of my face taken under our office's fluorescent lights was detailed but splotchy, with plenty of visual noise and a slight blue tint. HP sells the $210 Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W dock, which juices the laptop while providing four USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA and DisplayPort outputs. We tested a third-party charger, the Innergie PowerGear USB-C 45, with the Folio and it worked well. Dell's Latitude 7370 is a bit thicker, but makes room for a full-size USB port, micro HDMI and an SD card reader, while the 14-inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon has a full suite of ports. However, users who need to pop in a random flash drive or attach a mouse will need to get a dongle such as HP's $29 USB-C to USB 3 adapter or $49 USB-C to HDMI adapter. That's twice as many ports as the MacBook and enough to easily charge your laptop and connect to something else at the same time. In addition to a single 3.5-mm audio jack, the laptop has two USB Type-C / Thunderbolt ports that it can use for charging, connecting to multiple monitors or transferring data at blistering USB 3.1 speeds (up to 10 Gbps). When I listened to hard rock songs like the Styx's "Renegade" and Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water," the music and vocals were rich, but guitars and other high pitches distorted at maximum volume. The EliteBook Folio G1's bottom-mounted Bang & Olufsen speakers provided accurate audio that was more than loud enough to fill the first floor of my house. Colors stayed true at up to 45 degrees to the left and right, but their very glossy surfaces showed reflections at wider viewing angles. In real-world use, both EliteBook Folio displays were more than luminous enough for regular use, however. The EliteBook Folio G1 packs in one of the most comfortable and responsive laptop keyboards I've ever tested. The Razer Blade Stealth was even brighter at 402 nits. ![]() The ultraportable category average (305 nits) is much lower than the 4K panel, as are the MacBook (327), Latitude 7370 with 4K display (307) and ThinkPad X1 Carbon with 2K display (257). The Folio's 4K screen is also a lot brighter than its 1080p sibling, measuring 377 nits on our light meter, compared to 288 nits for the 1920 x 1080 panel. ![]() ![]() However, the EliteBook Folio's 1080p screen is a lot less colorful, reproducing only 72 percent of the gamut. Fine details, such as the lines in Steve Rogers' forehead and the battle scars on Iron Man's mask, were prominent on both displays, though even sharper on the 3840 x 2160 panel.Īccording to our colorimeter, the 4K panel can reproduce an impressive 161 percent of the sRGB color gamut, which is a lot more than the ultraportable category average (88 percent) and the vibrant displays on the Latitude 13 (117 percent), ThinkPad X1 Carbon (103 percent) and MacBook (107 percent). On the 1920 x 1080 screen, the shades were noticeably darker and more muted. ![]()

Somewhat archly, and even awkwardly, it follows the story of the blood-spattered Bride (Uma Thurman), who was left for dead, four years earlier in an El Paso chapel, by the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, of which she was once a member. ![]() You can practically see his look of glee behind the camera.Īn idea that has its roots way back on the set of Pulp Fiction (when Tarantino would whisper to Mia Wallace, "Uma Thurman is gonna kill Bill"), Kill Bill is an unlikely success. ![]() If Kill Bill isn't necessarily Tarantino at the top of his game, it is surely Tarantino having a kick-ass good time. The film is a marvel of outrageous violence and black humor, and of clumsy and pretentious dialog that somehow works. Kill Bill Volume 1 is a big ol' blast of style, curiously empty in the middle, but damn if it isn't one of the coolest movies you're likely to see. Devouring prerelease gossip and teaser trailers, I prepared myself for a heavy dose of uber-Tarantino-a splashy, somewhat insane pastiche of genre clichés and oversaturated panache-and oh, did I get it. It was with great giddiness that I welcomed Quentin Tarantino back to a theater near me, back in October 2003. But then the forgiving part of me steps in and admits that even as a singular film, Kill Bill Volume 1 is a hell of a fun, frothy ride-and it's worth owning in the interim. The cynical part of me would decry the move as a blatant cash grab and call this double-punch of DVD/movie release just more of the same. I might think back to the decidedly odd decision to split Kill Bill into two parts in the first place. Should you bother picking up what amounts to a barebones DVD release of half a movie? Will we even see a standalone version of Volume 2? Or will the inevitable comprehensive set eclipse any potential standalone Volume 2 disc? If that's the case, won't this standalone Volume 1 disc look awfully silly and pointless next to that set? These are questions I'd be considering if I didn't have this review copy in hand. Surely, we're destined to see a comprehensive DVD set of the entire epic at some later date, perhaps even before Christmas of this year. You might rightfully wonder about the future of Kill Bill on DVD. However, despite the timeliness and convenience of the Kill Bill film/DVD release schedule, you might pause before buying this DVD of Volume 1. Arriving days before Tarantino's Kill Bill vision will be completed in the highly anticipated Volume 2, this DVD of Volume 1 comes at a perfect time for us to finally appreciate this crazy revenge epic in its full, intended scope. Dubbed self-importantly "the fourth film by Quentin Tarantino" (and, somewhat confusingly, Volume 2 will be labeled "the fifth film"), Kill Bill Volume 1 is a wild, allusion-crammed cartoon of a movie, filled with gore and smirks-but it really is only half a film. So here we have it-the first part of Quentin Tarantino's wiz-bang, blood-drenched, over-the-top Hong Kong samurai homage, Kill Bill Volume 1. ![]() ![]() ![]() When questioned on this, Govia say that their contract with the Department for Transport only allows them to operate this level of service. Thus, the last common ancestor of Agastache and its closest relatives probably was an aromatic Eastern Asian perennial or subshrub with verticillasters of bluish-purple flowers – i.e. The monotypic and highly distinct Cedronella (Canary balm) of Macaronesia is slightly more distant and seems to be a basal relict within the subtribe. The sister group of this clade is the core of the Nepetinae, the more or less robust and typically aromatic catmints ( Nepeta) and their close relatives which occur mainly in and around western Asia. The genus Agastache seems to have originated as a North American/trans-Beringian offshoot of its radiation about 25 million years ago, in the Late Oligocene. These three lineages form a tight-knit radiation as of 2016, it is not resolved with certainty which of the other two lineages is the sister taxon of Agastache, but most data place the aromatic group slightly closer. By contrast, the other lineage unites the largely scentless and low-growing genera Glechoma and Meehania which occur widely across the Holarctic. The closest living relatives of Agastache are believed to be two very different lineages: One is a group of mostly Asian and usually strongly aromatic and rather robust plants, which contains the typical dragonheads ( Dracocephalum), true hyssops ( Hyssopus), West Asian dragonheads ( Lallemantia), and Japanese catnip ( Schizonepeta). Īgastache nepetoides anatomy note the curving stamen stalks typical of Agastache sect. The Nepetinae are robustly supported by cladistic analyses of morphological and DNA sequence data, and were recognized as early as the mid-late 19th century. Within its subfamily, it belongs to the mint tribe ( Mentheae), and therein to the catmint subtribe ( Nepetinae). It is a member of subfamily Nepetoideae, which contains a large proportion of the world's aromatic culinary herbs. The genus was established in 1762 by Jan Frederik Gronovius in the second edition of his controversial Flora Virginica, based on the specimens and notes of John Clayton. The flowers are usually white, pink, mauve, or purple, with the bracts that back the flowers being of the same or a slightly contrasting color.Īgastache derives from the Ancient Greek words ἄγαν ( ágan) "very much" and στάχυς ( stákhus) "ear of grain", describing the flower spikes. Upright spikes of tubular, two-lipped flowers develop at the stem tips in summer. Most species are very upright, 0.5–3 m tall, with stiff, angular stems clothed in toothed-edged, lance shaped leaves ranging from 1–15 cm long and 0.5–11 cm broad depending on the species. The common names of the species are a variety of fairly ambiguous and confusing " hyssops" and " mints" as a whole the genus is known as giant hyssops or hummingbird mints. It contains 22 species, mainly native to North America, one species native to eastern Asia.
